Volleyball Eyes First Place In Friday Home Match vs Yale
October 26, 2017 | Women's Volleyball
LIVE VIDEO STREAM: Yale l Brown
LIVE STATS: Yale l Brown
Princeton has had the best home-court advantage in the Ivy League over the last two years, and the Tigers would love nothing more to see that Dillon Gym magic extend through this weekend.
If it does, Princeton will be back in first place in the Ivy League.
Princeton (13-5, 6-2 Ivy) hosts a pair of Ivy League home matches this weekend, including a Friday night showdown that will go a long way in determining the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships. The Tigers host first-place Yale (13-4, 7-1 Ivy) Friday at 7 pm, and then host Brown (6-13, 1-7 Ivy) Saturday at 5 pm; both matches will be streamed live on the Ivy League Network.
Princeton has won 16 straight Ivy League home matches, dating back to its 2015 championship season, and it has faced similar pressure to what it will see this weekend. The Tigers entered the second half of the 2015 Ivy season with a 3-4 record and needed a perfect finish to their regular season to catch Harvard for a share of the league crown. Seven victories later, Princeton had its first of two straight league titles.
The Tigers' path to a third hit a bump two weeks ago in losses at Cornell and Columbia, but they got back on track with a 3-0 win over Penn last Friday night. Princeton is the only team with an Ivy win over Yale this season — 3-1 in New Haven — but the Bulldogs have won 15 of 18 sets since that match to move past the Tigers in the Ivy standings. Princeton and Yale rank in the Ivy Top 3 in most major statistical categories (kills, assists, digs, offensive/defensive attack percentage), and they have split their last six matches.
Princeton has won two straight at home over Yale, and it got a 16-kill effort from sophomore Natasha Skov in the road win at Yale earlier this season — the team's first win in New Haven since the 2007 championship season.
Admission is free to Dillon Gym for both matches.
