Fencing Teams to Open Season Sunday at Ohio State Duals (Revised Schedule)

The beginning of the 2017-18 Princeton fencing season will come Sunday when the Tigers have a day of duals against some of their fellow top teams in the nation at Ohio State.
Five bouts are on the docket, beginning at 8:30 a.m. against Northwestern with matches against Air Force, NJIT (men), Cornell (women), Ohio State and Notre Dameto follow. The Irish women were ranked first in the final CollegeFencing360.com poll of the 2016-17 season with Princeton third and Ohio State fifth. Ohio State's and Notre Dame's men were ranked tied for second to end last season with Princeton fifth.
At the NCAA Championships, which combine men's and women's scores, Notre Dame won the title with Ohio State second and Princeton fourth, among the teams competing in Columbus this weekend. The Tigers have taken home a top-four NCAA trophy in each of the last seven years, the nation's only program to do so.
Of the 11 Tigers to represent Princeton at the NCAAs last year, Princeton returns sophomore saber Maia Chamberlain and junior saber Sage Palmedo from the women's side and junior épées Wesley Johnson and Michael Popovici, sophomore foil Samuel Barmann, senior foil Thomas Dudey, and senior saber Edward Chin, with Chamberlain, Palmedo, Johnson and Popovici earning All-America honors last year.
