Robinson Has Three-Point Night as Princeton Dominates at RPI, 6-2
November 11, 2017 | Men's Ice Hockey
Senior Eric Robinson scored twice and assisted on the game-winning goal as Princeton posted a 6-2 win over Rensselaer at Houston Field House.
Thirteen players had points, including freshman netminder Ryan Ferland, as all four lines got involved in the scoring tonight.
Princeton (2-2-2, 1-2-1 ECAC) grabbed a 2-0 lead but it was erased by two RPI (2-5-3, 1-4-1 ECAC) goals 1:10 apart. Junior Ryan Kuffner redirected a drive by Max Véronneau at the point for the first goal of the game at 5:22, his fourth of the year. Senior David Hallisey delivered the perfect pass to Robinson who was at the defensive blue line and had a step on his defenders. Chase Perry had no chance as Robinson put the puck past the blocker at 10:20.
The Engineers knotted the game at 2-2 with goals from Jared Wilson and Billy Jerry at 14:58 and 16:08, but sophomore Jackson Cressey regained the lead at 17:58 in a shootout of a first period. It was Robinson that skated down the left side and took the initial shot that was saved by Perry but Hallisey collected the puck behind the goal and fed Cressey in the slot for the tally.
Junior defender Josh Teves net his first goal of the season in a fantastic give-and-go with Kuffner. Teves cut in from the right boards, passed to Kuffner along the extended red as he dodged his defender and a quick tap back and Teves one-timed it into the right side.
Robinson's second goal, assisted by Teves and Ferland, showed off the resiliency of the Tigers. As Ferland settled the puck and Teves picked it up behind the goal he fed Robinson on the left side. Robinson brought the puck up the ice and as he was tripped by one of the two defenders on his tail, he quickly got to his feet and found the puck before one of the five Engineer skaters and put it five hole on Perry.
Keenan scored his first career goal from one knee as he rifled in a Spencer Kryczka pass from the left side after Princeton intercepted the puck in the neutral zone and set up moving forward.
Princeton was 0 for 2 on the power play, while RPI was 0 for 4.
Ferland finished the game with 27 saves for the Tigers, while Perry made 30 stops.
In its first league win over the season, Princeton also collects its first win at Houston Field House since the 2011-12 season.
