Tigers Drop Mid-Week Game to Quinnipiac
November 28, 2017 | Men's Ice Hockey
Quinnipiac got the best of travel partner Princeton on Tuesday night in a 6-2 game at Hobey Baker Rink. The Tigers will look to turn the tables on Jan. 30 when they face the Bobcats for the second time.
Junior Max Véronneau scored his sixth goal of the season, with help from linemate Alex Riche and senior David Hallisey batted in his fourth of the year with Jeremy Germain and Derek Topatigh assisting.
Princeton (4-5-1, 2-4-1 ECAC) fell behind 2-0 in the first period as Quinnipiac got goals from Tanner McMaster and Logan Mick. Véronneau made it a 2-1 game at 7:36 of the second.
The Bobcats followed up with two more in the second, including one on the power play. It marks just the fifth power-play goal the Tigers have allowed this season as they rank ninth in the country in penalty kill - going 29 for 37.
The Tigers saved their best hockey for the third period, as they outshot the Bobcats 15-8 - after having a 27-8 disadvantage through the first 40 minutes.
Nick Jermain added to Quinnipiac's lead at 13:13 but Hallisey responded just 33 seconds later with a wrist shot from the slot.
Princeton pulled netminder Ryan Ferland, who finished the game with 30 saves, with 2:38 to play but Quinnipiac won the ensuing draw and knocked the puck down the ice for the empty-net goal.
Andrew Shortridge made 21 saves as his team improves to 6-7-2 on the season and 3-4 in the ECAC.
