The Princeton Tigers know that their biggest meets are still to come, but they would love nothing more than to head into the long winter break with a fifth straight victory and an unbeaten record in the Ivy League.
They can achieve both goals Friday night, as they host the Columbia Lions at DeNunzio Pool (5 pm) in the Tigers' final home Ivy meet of the season. They will host both Villanova and Lehigh in 2018, but both H-Y-P and Ivies will be in Boston.
The meet will be streamed live on the Ivy League Network.
Princeton, under first-year head coach Bret Lundgaard, enters today off four straight Ivy League wins and a comeback victory in last weekend's Big Al Open. The Tigers trailed Brown after Day 1 and were pushed throughout the weekend by both the Bears and Villanova, but their overall depth trumped the competition and clinched an exciting win. Besides sweeping both medley relays, the Tigers also got wins from juniors Joanna Curry (400 IM) and Isabel Reis (200 fly), as well as a 100 breast victory from Jenny Ma.
Each member of that trio also picked up wins in the tri-meet win over both Cornell and Penn, while senior tri-captain Maddy Veith was one of several multiple-event winners for Princeton (50/100 free) in Philadelphia.
Columbia got off to a tough start in the Ivy League, as it lost three home duals to Penn, Harvard, and Cornell, with the Penn meet being decided by only five points. Columbia, coached by former Princeton swimmer Diana Caskey, had several winners in its latest dual meet against Yale, including Julia Samson, who swept both back events, and Jessica He, who won the 200 free.
Following Friday's meet, Princeton will be off until a home meet against Villanova on Jan. 12.
