About the time that the Princeton men's lacrosse team was attacking the chicken parm and meatballs at its postgame reception after its 22-8 win over NJIT Saturday on Sherrerd Field, the Marist men's lacrosse team was getting on a plane 2,000 miles away to come back home.
Whatever time zone they were in, both teams were pretty happy Saturday. Certainly the Red Foxes were, after a 10-4 win in Colorado over No. 14 Air Force, a team that had opened its season with a win over Duke.
Both teams are faced with a first quick turnaround, as they meet at Sherrerd Field three days after they last played. The teams have no history together, as this is the first meeting between the two. As for the present, they are a combined 3-0 on the young season, so someone will come away with the first loss of 2017.

Princeton is playing the second of five straight home games to start the 2017 season. The only other time in program history that Princeton played five straight home games to start a season was 1982.
At the other end of the spectrum is Marist, which is playing its first four games away from home.
Next up for Princeton will be Hofstra Saturday at 1, followed by Johns Hopkins on Friday, March 3 and Quinnipiac on Tuesday, March 7. Quinnipiac, like Marist, is a member of the MAAC.
*Â Â Â Â *Â Â Â Â *
In addition to the win over Air Force, Marist also has a 12-8 win over Colgate in its season opener.
The Red Foxes have outscored their first two opponents 22-12, despite being outshot 78-59. The big reason the team has allowed only six goals per game? Junior goalie Brian Corrigan, the 2016 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, who has a .707 save percentage thorugh two games.
Led by Corrigan, Marist has held its first two opponents to 12 for 78 shooting, or a .154 shooting percentage.
Princeton took 45 shots against NJIT and turned them into 22 goals, a .489 shooting percentage.
*Â Â Â Â *Â Â Â Â *
Gavin McBride opened his senior season with a career-high six points against NJIT, on three goals and three assists. For McBride, it was his sixth straight game (the last five of last year and now the first of 2017) with at least three goals.
The school record is eight straight games with at least three goals, set by Chris Massey in 1996.
McBride leads all current Princeton players with 53 career goals. With 23 career assists, McBride also has the highest point total of any current player with 76.

Gavin McBride has at least one point in every game since the start of his sophomore season.
*Â Â Â Â *Â Â Â Â *
Michael Sowers opened his Princeton career with two goals and five assists, while playing a little more than half the game.
The five assists for Sowers were the most ever by a Princeton freshman in his first game, bettering the four that Ryan Boyle had in his first game in 2001.
Sowers joined Boyle, Rob Torti, Tommy Davis, Mike MacDonald and Ryan Ambler as the only Princeton players this century with at least five assists in a game.
*Â Â Â Â *Â Â Â Â *
Princeton's leading scorer, Michael Sowers, is listed at 5-8, 165 pounds. Marist's leading scorer, J.D. Recor, is listed as 5-7, 160 pounds.

Currier has 178 career ground balls. The next highest total on the team is 84, by Sam Bonafede.
Speaking of Bonafede, he won 16 of 21 face-offs against NJIT. Through two games, Marist has won 21 of 42 face-offs, including 17 of 38 by Matt Galioto.
