February 22, 2017 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
The weekend between the Princeton fencing team's dual Ivy League titles and this weekend's Temple Duals wasn't a quiet one for several Tiger fencers who went to Kansas City for the Junior Olympics.
Kasia Nixon and Wesley Johnson both placed well enough to earn bids to the Junior World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, April 1-10. Nixon went 6-0 in pool bouts before winning seven direct-elimination bouts to claim her second straight Junior Olympics title in a field of 208 fencers.
Samuel Barmann finished 11th of 266 fencers in men's foil, going perfect in the pool bouts before winning three direct-elimination matches to make the Round of 16.
Johnson placed 43rd and Wesley Yuan placed 75th of 301 fencers in the junior men's épée competition.
The Tigers will be back on the strips Sunday at the Temple Duals, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Information for the event is here, and results from the Junior Olympics can be found here.
