Fencing Teams Get Set for Ivy League Championships This Weekend

Each having won an Ivy League title a year ago, the Princeton fencing teams will compete at this year's Ivy League round-robin Saturday and Sunday at Penn.
Princeton's schedule will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. against Yale, followed by Harvard at 1:15 p.m., Cornell at 2:45 p.m. (women only) and Brown at 4:15. The Tigers will get going Sunday against Penn at 11:30 a.m. before finishing up with Columbia at 1:45 p.m.
The Ivy League Digital Network will have coverage of the four strips at Penn's Dave Micahnik Fencing Center, as well as highlights of the eight strips in the Rockwell Gymnasium.
The Ivy counts four of the top seven nationally ranked men's teams, including No. 1 Columbia, No. 5 Princeton, No. 6 Penn and No. 7 Harvard, as well as four of the top seven women's teams, including No. 1 Columbia, No. 2 Princeton, No. 6 Penn and No. 7 Harvard. Princeton shared the men's Ivy title last year with Columbia and Penn at 4-1 each, while the Tiger women shared the title with Columbia and Harvard, all at 5-1.
Princeton's women earned six first-team and one second-team All-Ivy honor last year, and five of the seven return in first-teamers Sage Palmedo (saber), Ashley Tsue (foil), Audrey Abend (épée) and Charlene Liu (épée), and second-teamer Allison Lee (saber). Princeton's men return épée champion Alex House as well as second-team honorees Peter Pak (saber), Thomas Dudey (foil) and Wesley Johnson (épée).
This year, Princeton's women are off to a 22-0 dual-meet start and have won 31 duals in a row dating back to last year's Ivy round-robin. The men are 16-4 this season, and the teams combined for five wins in six tries against fellow national top-10 competition last weekend at the Northwestern Duals.
The Ivy meet begins the championship portion of the season, as only the Temple Duals (Feb. 26) remain before the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional on Mar. 11, followed by the NCAA Championships beginning Mar. 23.
