Fencing's Nixon Wins Junior World Cup

While many of her teammates were competing at the Northwestern Duals, Princeton freshman épée Kasia Nixon spent the past weekend in Finland, winning the Junior World Cup.
Nixon went 6-0 in pool bouts and earned the third seed in the direct elimination portion of the competition. Nixon got past Turkish opponent Nisanur Ozkalayci 15-2 in the round of 128 before battling through some tighter matches, including a 15-13 win over Croatia's Paula Jukic 15-13 in the round of 64, a 15-12 win over Italy's Alessandra Bozza in the round of 32, a 15-9 win over Italy's Beatrice Cagnin in the round of 16, and a 15-6 win over France's Oceane Tahe to reach the semifinals. There, Nixon got past Russia's Aizanat Murtazaeva 15-10 to meet American teammate Giana Vierheller in the final, where Nixon won 15-7.
The Ivy League round-robin at Penn is up next for Nixon and the Tigers beginning Saturday. Both Princeton teams enter the meet as defending champions.
