Updated: Women's Tennis Team Earns Top Seed in This Weekend's ECAC Championship
February 06, 2017 | Women's Tennis
Six Ivy League teams will meet at Harvard this weekend for the ECAC women's tennis championship, and Princeton has been awarded the top seed for the event.
Instead of a bracket format, this year's event will have two groups with each team playing teams in the opposite group. The team with the best record will earn the ECAC title.
Princeton was due to open Friday against fifth-seeded Brown, but Friday's play has been cancelled due to Thursday's snow. Princeton will begin by facing second-seeded Columbia Saturday at 1 p.m. and will then meet fourth-seeded Cornell Sunday at 9 a.m. Dartmouth has the third seed and Harvard has the sixth seed.
Tie-breakers to decide the team champion for the event will include, in order, head-to-head result, percent of matches won, percent of sets won, and percent of games won.
Princeton, at 3-3 on the season, has competed in the ECAC Championship every year since 2009 except for 2013, and the team's top finish was runner-up in 2009, 2011 and 2012. Senior Caroline Joyce and sophomore Nicole Kalhorn made their ITA national ranking debut Wednesday at No. 39.
