Sheppard Returns to Canadian U-20 National Team Camp
March 17, 2017 | Women's Soccer
For the second consecutive month, Princeton freshman Olivia Sheppard has headed to Canada to take part in Canada Soccer's EXCEL ID camp in Burnaby, B.C. that runs through Tuesday, March 21.
The camps' purpose is to evaluate and train players eligible for Canada's U-20 team as it prepares for the next round of FIFA youth tournaments, including the next FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in France in August 2018.
Princeton has been well represented on Canada's national teams in recent years. Diana Matheson '08 has competed in the last four FIFA Women's World Cups and the last three Olympic Games for Canada, helping the team to back-to-back Olympic bronze medals. Current junior Vanessa Gregoire was on Canada's 2014 U-20 Women's World Cup team.
At Princeton, Sheppard was named to the Top Drawer Soccer' mid-season top 100 rookies list, playing in 15 games and making nine starts.Â
