PHILADELPHIA –The No. 1 seeded Penn Quakers held off a late charge, defeating the No. 2 seeded Princeton Tigers, 57-48, to win the Ivy League Tournament Championship at the Palestra on Sunday afternoon.
Bella Alarie snagged her second straight double-double and her eighth of the season as she amassed 11 points and 11 rebounds. Vanessa Smith had eight points while Gabrielle Rush had seven points and five rebounds in the loss.
The Quakers collected the first four points of the game before Leslie Robinson's mid-range jumper broke an 0-for-3 spell for Princeton. Penn rolled off 12 consecutive points to begin the second quarter, jumping in front, 27-14. Back-to-back baskets from Vanessa Smith made the game, 29-18, at the half.
Consecutive three-pointers from Michelle Nwokedi extended Penn's lead to 17 (35-18) right out of the intermission, but the Tigers countered with four straight. Princeton would get as close as 14 in the frame, but Penn made 4-of-7 three-point attempts to take a 45-30 lead after the third stanza.

Alarie dropped in her third three-pointer of the contest, getting the game back to single digits (53-44) with 2:58 remaining. Penn held Princeton to just one basket the rest of the way and made four free throws to take home the title.
