Pacific swept the Princeton softball team 3-2 and 5-2 in a Tuesday doubleheader in Stockton, Calif., on the Tigers' spring trip to the Golden State.
In the first game, Princeton had a Kaitlyn Waslawski single in the first inning but didn't have another hit until a seventh-inning Kylee Pierce single. That inning started with a Marissa Reynolds walk, and an error right after Pierce's at-bat allowed Keeley Walsh to reach and scored Reynolds to bring Princeton within 3-1. Another error two batters later allowed Pierce to score, but the potential tying run was left on second after a groundout ended the game.Â
Marissa Young got the win in the opener for Pacific, allowing the two hits while walking four and striking out five. Claire Klausner took the loss for the Tigers.
Pacific got on the board in the opener in the fourth when Rachel Sellers had the last of three straight hits with a run-scoring single, and a Samantha Owen groundout picked up a Cassidy Gustafson double to plate the West Coast Tigers' first run of the sixth. Caitlin Reynolds scored a Taylor Covington double with a two-bagger of her own to pick up what turned out to be the game-winning run.
In game two, Pacific put up four runs in the fourth, starting with a leadoff homer from Gustafson. An Owen single eventually scored on a wild pitch, and a pair of walks went on to come home on an error to put the host Tigers up 4-0.Â
Alex Viscusi homered for the first time this season in the fifth to get Princeton on the board, but Pacific answered with a Reynolds base hit that picked up a Gustafson single to restore the four-run lead. Princeton made it 5-2 when Alex Colón drew the fourth walk of the sixth inning to force in a run.
Ashley LaGuardia took the loss for Princeton while Kenya Lindstrom had the win for Pacific.
Princeton will head west to Moraga, Calif., for a 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET pair at Saint Mary's Wednesday.Â
