The final Sunday before Ivy League play begins went down as a split for the Princeton softball team, which fell to Binghamton 13-8 in eight innings before defeating host Long Island 4-1.

The opener was a back-and-forth game that settled with Binghamton. Princeton got out to a 3-0 lead in the first after a throwing error helped two runs score and a Keeley Walsh solo home run added the third, but Binghamton got five in the top of the second to take a 5-3 lead. Princeton answered with a pair in the bottom of the second on singles from Megan Donahey and Mikayla Blaska to tie it at 5-5, and a Kaylee Grant single in the fifth gave Princeton a 6-5 lead.

Binghamton pulled back ahead with two in the top of the sixth before Grant came through with a two-out single to pick up Danielle Dockx, who returned after Marissa Reynolds had a pinch-hit double in her spot.

Binghamton put up six in the top of the eighth, and the Tigers managed only a run in the bottom of the eighth on a play that began with Kylee Pierce reaching on a throwing error. Donahey, Blaska and Grant each had two hits in the opener with Riley Wilkinson taking the loss after 3 2/3 innings of relief of Ashley LaGuardia. Rayn Gibson went the distance to get the win for Binghamton.

In game two, an Allison Harvey first-inning home run and a Pierce double that picked up a Kaitlyn Waslawski single gave Princeton a 2-0 lead after two. That lead grew to 3-0 in the sixth when Waslawski grounded out with the bases loaded to bring home a Blaska single and 4-0 in the seventh when Danielle Dockx scored when Blaska reached on an error.

Erica Nori went 6 1/3 innings for the win while Claire Klausner nailed down the final two outs for the save. Tallie Woodson took the loss for LIU.

Princeton will open Ivy play Friday at 2 p.m. with a doubleheader against Brown at the Class of 1895 Field.
