Ivy League Championships to Begin Friday for Men's Golf Team
April 18, 2017 | Men's Golf
The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Conn., will welcome the Princeton men's golf team and its Ivy counterparts this weekend when the Ivy League Championships begin Friday.
The Tigers will be aiming for their first championship since 2013. Princeton has competed with all seven of its fellow Ivy teams at either Yale's MacDonald Cup in the fall or the Princeton Invitational two weekends ago and has finished in front of every program except for Harvard at one of those two tournaments. Harvard won the MacDonald tournament with Yale seven strokes back in third and Princeton eight back in fourth, and the Crimson finished second, four strokes in front of the third-place Tigers, at the Princeton Invitational with Yale 11 strokes behind Princeton in fifth.
Michael Davis, Alex Dombrowski, Marc Hedrick, Eric Mitchell and Evan Quinn have been Princeton's playing five in each of the team's last seven events dating back to the fall. All except freshman Quinn have previous experience at the Ivy League Championships, and Davis, Hedrick and Mitchell have earned All-Ivy League honors earlier in their careers, with Davis and Hedrick included on the first team in 2015 and Mitchell on the second team a year ago.
The Stanwich Club is a first-time host of the Ivy League Championships as the event returns to Connecticut for the first time since being hosted at Yale's home course for the fourth time in 1986. One round will be played each day Friday through Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. on the par-72, 7,133-yard course with the winning team gaining an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals. The medalist will also be assured of at least an individual berth in the regionals, should he not advance with his team.
Live scoring via Golfstat will be available here.
