Hompe's 8-Point Day Gives Princeton a Win and Takes her to Second on Scoring List
April 02, 2017 | Women's Lacrosse
PRINCETON, N.J. (4/2/17) - Senior Olivia Hompe had an eight-point afternoon to lead No. 7 Princeton to a 16-4 win over Delaware on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers allowed just one goal in the second half, following a 12-goal run.
Hompe's eight-point game moved her from fourth on the Princeton all-time scoring list to second, as she surpassed Lisa Rebane '96, Lindsey Biles '05 and former teammate Erin McMunn '15, as she now has 225 points. It could be a stretch for her to take the lead from all-time leading scorer Crista Samaras '99 who has 270 points. Hompe also is now fifth all-time in goals with 159 and fifth in assists with 66. She now has 50 points this season, in just nine games.
Princeton, off to its best start since the 2009 season when the team went 10-1 through April 11, is now 8-1 on the season.
Â
The Blue Hens jumped out to a 2-0 lead as goalie Taylor Carpentier thwarted Princeton's efforts to get on the board as she caused a turnover on the Tigers first possession and stopped a Hompe shot on the next trip down the field.
Â
Sophomore Nonie Anderson and junior Ellie McNulty scored exactly one minute apart to tie the game at 2-2 at 23:17.
Â
Kirsten Hale put Delaware back in front with an unassisted goal at 16:00.
Â
From there it was all Tigers.
Â
Princeton scored 12 unanswered goals to take a 14-3 lead.
Â
Freshman Tess D'Orsi got things started on a feed from Colby Chanenchuk, who had three assists today. Hompe then net the game's next four goals, before setting up Princeton's eighth goal by Elizabeth George, then got back to scoring her fifth three minutes later. In total, Hompe's five goals came in a span of 17:11.
Â
McNulty tacked on two more goals to have three for the afternoon and George buried her second of the day. Junior Haley Giraldi gave the Tigers a running clock at 13:18, and sophomore Kathryn Hallett followed up to give Princeton an 11-goal advantage.
Â
Becky Goshler, who had four goals against No. 4 Colorado on Wednesday, ended her team's 36-minute drought at 9:26 but that would be the only goal the Blue Hens would have in the second half.
Â
D'Orsi fired in a feed from Hompe and freshman Annie Cory hit a free-position shot in the final five minutes.
Â
Defensively, senior Madeline Rodriguez caused three turnovers and had three ground balls. In total, Princeton caused 16 turnovers. McNulty did a great job of cleaning up loose balls with a team-high five.

Â
Carpentier had 10 saves as Delaware falls to 5-5 on the season.
