Women's Lights Open Key Stretch With Historic Class of 1999 Regatta
April 20, 2017 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
LINKS: Watch Live l Class of 1999 Cup History
Both the Princeton and Radcliffe women's lightweight teams compete on among the most well-known racing venues in all of collegiate rowing. The Tigers typically race 1-2 times each year on Lake Carnegie, and they cherish each opportunity.
Yet, maybe they'll be just as happy to board a bus for Boston this weekend. After all, this rivalry has belonged to the road team this decade.
Third-ranked Princeton and fifth-ranked Radcliffe will meet for the 19th time in the Class of 1999 Cup regatta, easily the most historic regular-season race in the sport. The Tigers have won 14 times, although the two teams have split the last eight races.
The road team has left the last five meetings with the Class of 1999 Cup, including a 17-second win for the Crimson last year. Princeton was in a full rebuilding season last year, and it simply didn't have the speed to contend with the top boats in the nation. One year later, plenty has changed.
Princeton took third at the season-opening Knecht Cup two weeks ago, and it looked impressive in a win over Georgetown last week. The next two weeks include the Radcliffe race and the Eastern Sprints, which return to Lake Quinsigamond.
"Myself and the whole team are very excited for our Radcliffe dual and Eastern Sprints," sophomore Grace Miles said. "These races have been in our sights for a long time and we are focused on going out there and bringing home some hardware."
The races, scheduled for a 9:30 am start, will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
