PRINCETON, N.J. (4/21/17) - There was no better way to start the 2017 Larry Ellis Invitational than a PR by Princeton alum Cecilia Barowski '16 in the 800. Racing for HOKA NJNYTC Barowski posted a 2:01.96 to win her heat and the overall event, out of 55 competitors. In heat 2, sophomore Jackie Berardo was third at 2:09.15 to finish 15th overall – her best time in the event this season.
Senior Lizzie Bird looks to make her fourth appearance at the NCAA Regionals in the steeplechase, as she took on the event for the first time this season. She finished second overall at 10:09.04, moving from fourth place to second on the final lap. Sophomore Allie Klimkiewicz ran 10:38.36 in her first steeple and now ranks 10th in the event at Princeton, while sophomore Brighie Leach was 18th at 10:47.23.
Five Tigers recorded personal bests in the 1500, led by senior Katie Hanss. She was sixth overall with a 4:19.68, nearly three seconds better than her previous time. Her time moves her into fourth-place at Princeton all-time in the event. At 3800 meters the pair had moved into 11-14 before kicking it into high gear at 4200 meters taking 8-9 places.
Senior Julia Ratcliffe, who already has the best mark in the East and ranks second in the nation, won the hammer throw. All five of her countable throws were over 61 meters, her best being 66.45 (218).
The meet continues tomorrow at 11 a.m., with the shot put.
