DeGarmo and Hompe Named Tewaaraton Trophy Top-25 Nominees

WASHINGTON, D.C. (4/28/17) - Seniors Ellie DeGarmo and Olivia Hompe have been announced as top-25 nominees for the 2017 Tewaaraton Trophy, given annually to the top player in college lacrosse. This is the second consecutive season that they've been named as top 25.
The reigning NCAA Division I Goalie of the Year, DeGarmo currently ranks second in the nation in saves per game, averaging 12.07 each game. She ranks third in the nation in save percentage with a .550 save percentage. DeGarmo stopped a career-high 18 saves in a win over Syracuse and has been in double digits in saves in 10 of 14 games. With an 11-3 record, three of her wins this season have been over ranked teams.
Hompe leads the nation in goals per game, averaging 3.86 gpg, as she has tallied 54 goals and 22 assists this season for 76 points. She a;so is fourth in points per game (5.43), second in shots per game (8.42) and fourth in free-position percentage (73.3%). Hompe is also the team leader in ground balls with 26, has caused 13 turnovers and won 12 draws. She has scored the game-winning goal in five games, as Princeton is 11-4 on the season. Her best offensive output this season was a nine-point game against Syracuse as she scored seven goals and two assists. She has had at least five points in 11 of 14 games this season. She currently ranks second at Princeton in career points with 251, second in career goals with 177 and fourth in assists with 74.
Princeton has had five top-five finalists in program history including Julie Shaner in 2001, Rachael Becker in 2002 and 2003, Theresa Sherry in 2004 and Lindsey Biles in 2005. Defender Becker won the Tewaaraton in 2003.
DeGarmo and Hompe look to bring home their fourth Ivy League when the Tigers host Columbia on Saturday. Princeton has won the Ivy League title 13 times in program history.
