Walton Finishes Play at NCAA Championships

Princeton freshman Maya Walton finished play Monday at the NCAA Women's Golf Championships as the individual stroke-play portion of the tournament came to a close at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
Walton turned in a final-round 79 to finish at +29 and tie for 113th in the 132-player field. She won her way into the tournament by finishing as one of three individuals not on an advancing team at the NCAA Athens Regional in Georgia two weeks ago.
Walton had three birdies each Sunday and Monday, doing so on different holes in each round. Monday, The Tiger rookie birdied the par-5 11th, her second hole of the day, before saving a shot on the par-4 17th and par-4 sixth.
She is the third Tiger to compete in the NCAA finals. Mary Moan '97 tied for 40th in 1997 and Kelly Shon '14 tied for 37th in 2013.
Arizona State's Monica Vaughn won medalist honors at +1, a single stroke in front of Duke's Leona Maguire and Wake Forest's Jennifer Kupcho. The rest of the tournament will be a team match-play event, with Northwestern, Stanford, Arizona State, Ohio State, USC, Florida, Baylor and Kent State getting the coveted eight spots in the quarterfinals.
