Three Tigers Chosen for Maccabi USA Men's Soccer Team
June 26, 2017 | Men's Soccer
This July, three members of the Princeton men's soccer program will look to retain the gold medal in Open Men's Soccer at the World Maccabiah Games.
Goalkeeper Josh Haberman '17 and defender Benji Issroff '20 will take to the pitch, while former student coach David Goldstein '17 will be an assistant coach. The Games will be held in Israel, July 4-18.
Haberman was Princeton's starting goalkeeper during the 2016 season. He finished his career with an 8-6-2 record with three shutouts and 57 saves, including a career-high nine save performance against Dartmouth on Oct. 1, 2016. As a freshman, Issroff played in all 17 games in 2016 and will be an impact player to the Tigers' back line this fall after notable performances in Portugal during the team's spring break trip.
"In 2013, the Open Men's Soccer Team became the 'Impossible Dream' Team by winning the first ever Gold Medal by an Open Men's Soccer Team for USA," head coach Preston Goldfarb said. "We believe our 2017 Team will continue that 'Impossible Dream' by becoming the 'Forever Team' and make history again by going 'Back-to-Back for Gold Medals'" said Goldfarb. "These Games are not only about winning and competing, but more importantly about the life altering experiences we will all have together in Israel, not just for a month, but for "forever!"
