Three of Princeton's top fencing alumnae earned tickets to Leipzig, Germany to compete in the Senior World Championships, which began July 19.
In the run-up to the event, USA Fencing had a profile on Anna Van Brummen '17, who became Princeton's third women's individual NCAA fencing champion and first women's épée winner when she took that title in March. Van Brummen's title came against teammate and fellow Senior World Championships competitor Katharine Holmes '17, and it was the first since another competitor in Germany, saber Eliza Stone '13, won her senior year.
July 20 was the first day of competition for the Tiger trio, with all three advancing through the preliminary rounds. Stone returned to competition July 22, finishing 45th, while Van Brummen and Holmes competed the following day, finishing 38th and 60th.
The Tiger trio's team events began July 25, with Stone and her U.S. saber teammates finishing seventh after defeating Hong Kong 45-33 in the round of 16 before a 45-41 loss to South Korea in the quarters. Holmes, Van Brummen and the U.S. épées also finished seventh the next day, defeating Italy 37-26 in the round of 16 before a 38-37 loss to China in the quarterfinals.
