Incoming Thrower Amaechi Takes 4th at Pan American Jr. Games

Amaechi was one of just two Americans to compete in the event and took fourth with a throw of 52.24 (171-4.75). She made the team after competing at the USATF Junior Championships this past June in Sacramento. In representing the United States for the first time, Amaechi was the youngest athlete to qualify for the discus final, at age 18.
The Pan American Junior Games, are an Olympic-style competition, held biennally for athletes from all nations of the Americas under the age of 20.
A native of San Francisco, Amaechi was the runner-up at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, throwing a 53.10 (174-2.5) in Sacramento in June, while also qualifying and competing in the shot put. This season she threw a personal best 53.95 (177) at the state championships in Clovis taking second place and won the shot put with a toss of 14.46 (47-5.25). In 2016, she was the state champion in the discus at 164-1 (50.01) and took third in the shot put at 45-1.50 (13.75). In all four years at Abraham Lincoln high school, Amaechi qualified for the state championships in both the discus and outdoor shot put.
Amaechi also has personal bests of 1.55 (5-1) in the high jump, 14.54 (47-8.5) in the 4kg shot put, and 12.80 in the 100 meters.
