Seven Tigers Named to IWLCA Academic Honor Roll; Team Earns Award

Seven Princeton women's lacrosse student-athletes were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll and the team itself has been named an Academic Honor Squad.
Earning the honors for the second consecutive season are Ellie DeGarmo, Anna Doherty, Olivia Hompe and Madeline Rodriguez. Abby Finkelston, Kennedy Krauss and Ellie McNulty capture their first honor. In order to be eligible student-athletes must have achieved a GPA of 3.50 or greater and be a junior or senior.
DeGarmo earned her second first-team All-America honor in 2017 as she led the nation in save percentage with a .556 averaging 12.37 saves per game, also the most in the NCAA. A Tewaaraton top-25 finalist she posted a 15-4 record with six wins over ranked team and each of the four losses top top-10 teams while setting the Princeton single-season record in saves with 235.
After missing last year with an injury, Doherty battled back and once again earned a starting role. In 18 games she scored 24 goals and four assists, while adding 27 ground balls, 26 draw controls and caused 13 turnovers.
A finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy and first-team All-America, Hompe was named the IWLCA Scholar-Athlete of the Year early this month. She led the country in goals per game, with 3.95 and was third in points with an average of 5.79. During the season she became Princeton's all-time scoring leader with 282 points with a record-high 195 goals and 87 assists. She also had the single-season record with 110 points on 75 goals and 35 assists.
A key part of the Tigers' stingy defense, Rodriguez is a first-team all-region and All-Ivy Leaguer. She led the team in draw controls with 37 while adding 32 ground balls and causing 18 turnovers. The defense limited opponents to 9.95 goals per game during the 2017 season.
Finkelston is this year's winner of the YRL Unsung Hero Award. After multiple injuries impacted her ability to play this season, Finkelston has been involved in a number of charitable organizations.
Krauss played in six games this year and notching her first career goal on her first shot on goal in a win over Yale on April 15.
In 19 games this year, McNulty scored 23 goals and eight assists for 31 points. She added 33 draws, 22 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.
Princeton won its 13th Ivy League title and fourth consecutive. The Tigers won the Ivy League Tournament and earned the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament to grab a first-round bye. Princeton reached the NCAA Quarterfinals in its 25th NCAA appearance.
A total of 97 Division I teams were honored for having cumulative team GPAs of 3.0 or higher during the 2016-17 academic year. Princeton has earned the honor every year since at least 2003*.* award information prior to 2003 is unknown.
