2017-18 Schedule
While the fall season will see the Princeton men's tennis team compete in events up and down the East Coast, the Tigers will spend a portion of their spring out West as they prepare for the annual Ivy slate.
"We're excited to begin the 2017-18 season and once again we feature an incredibly competitive national schedule to challenge our team," Princeton head coach Billy Pate said. "As always, we're seeking to play against many highly-ranked teams in order to allow our guys to fully develop as players. By putting ourselves on the line early in the semester we'll need to prioritize our preparation to be at our best. We're also looking forward to having some great home contests as well for our local community to enjoy some fantastic tennis."
Those home events will begin in the fall with the annual Ivy-Plus and Farnsworth Invitationals, Sept. 22-24 and Oct. 6-8, after the Tigers start their season the weekend before the Ivy-Plus at a pair of tournaments hosted by Penn and Duke. A trip to Yale for the ITA Northeast Regional followed by visits to events at Navy and the annual Lakewood Ranch Invitational in Florida will close out the fall season.
Major-conference opponents will dot the early-spring schedule with Michigan State coming to Jadwin Gym in the spring opener on Jan. 28 before Princeton goes to the Pacific Northwest for matches at Portland and Washington the following weekend. Mississippi will come to Jadwin on Feb. 9 for the second of seven home non-conference contests. The Tigers will head to Penn State for a Match 17 match before heading to Florida for spring break and matches against South Florida, UCF and Florida Gulf Coast.
The Ivy season will begin March 31 at Penn before Princeton hosts Cornell and travels to Columbia on the first weekend of April and hosts both Yale and Brown on the second weekend of the month. A trip to Harvard and Dartmouth April 21-22 will close out the Ivy schedule.
Though the Tigers graduated three of the eight players who won at least 10 singles matches last year, sophomore Payton Holden led all players in 2016-17 with 20 singles wins with junior Jimmy Wasserman and senior Kial Kaiser back with 17 singles wins apiece last year. Senior Luke Gamble, who won 20 doubles matches last year, is back after being named a second-team All-Ivy doubles honoree in 2017.
