Five Tigers Chosen in Inaugural WPLL Draft

Five former Tigers were selected in the inaugural Women's Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL) draft on Wednesday. Ellie DeGarmo '17 was chosen by Baltimore, Holly (McGarvie) Reilly '09 by Philadelphia, Sarah Lloyd '14 to New England and Olivia Hompe '17 and Erin Slifer '15 to Upstate.
One hundred total players were drafted to the WPLL's five teams - Baltimore Brave, New England Command, New York Fight, Philadelphia Fire and Upstate Pride. Princeton had the fifth-most alums chosen in the league, which was created by former Princeton assistant coach Michele DeJuliis.
Also being selected was current Princeton assistant coach Kerrin Maurer, who will be on the Philadelphia team.

DeGarmo led the nation in save percentage the last two seasons. A two-time first-team All-America, DeGarmo was a Tewaaraton top-25 finalist the last two years. In 2016 she was named the C. Markland Kelly DI Goalkeeper of the Year and was the unanimous selection for the Ivy League Defender of the Year. DeGarmo was twice named first-team All-Ivy League and all-tournament earning MVP honors this year.

McGarvie was the co-Ivy League Player of the Year during her senior season in 2009. A Â two time first-team All-America selection she was also one of 18 Tewaaraton finalists in 2008. The Ivy League's Rookie of the Year in 2006, McGarvie who was also a member of the field hockey team was tabbed the von Kienbusch Award winner as the University's top female athlete in 2009. She was also a two-time World Champion on the US National Team.

Lloyd is a two-time unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection and was named the Ivy League Midfielder of the Year in 2014. She is Princeton's all-time leader in draw controls with 152.

Hompe was a Tewaaraton Top-5 finalist this past season. The Ivy League Attacker of the Year was a first-team All-Ivy League and All-Ivy Tournament pick three times earning MVP honors in 2016. A two-time All-America, Hompe was also the IWLCA Scholar-Athlete of the Year and helped Team England to a bronze medal at the FIL Rathbones World Cup this summer. Hompe is Princeton's all-time scorer with 282 points with 195 goals and 87 assists.

Slifer was a three-time all-Ivy League midfielder and was the unanimous selection for the league's Midfielder of the Year in 2015 – the same season she captured second-team All-America honors.
The league's inaugural season will kick off next summer, though several of the WPLL's players will be in action during an exhibition weekend Sept. 30 at the US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md.
