Princeton sophomore Maia Chamberlain took third at the Junior Women's Saber World Cup event in Costa Rica over the weekend,
It's the second medal at the event for Chamberlain, who took silver in 2015. After going 5-1 in pool bouts, Chamberlain earned a bye into the round of 16 before getting past Japan's Maia Sakai 15-4 in that round and current Columbia fencer Violet Michel 15-14 in the quarterfinals. Mexico's Natalia Botello, who went on to win gold, defeated Chamberlain in the semifinals 15-13.
Chamberlain had an outstanding freshman season, winning an NCAA bronze after earning first-team All-Ivy League recognition as Princeton won its seventh Ivy League title in eight years and continued its NCAA team trophy streak to a seventh season, the longest active streak in the nation.
