Princeton Opens 2018 With Road Dual At Villanova Friday
January 10, 2018 | Women's Swimming and Diving
The Princeton women's swimming and diving team will try to carry the momentum of a five-race win streak into 2018 this Friday when the Tigers head to Philadelphia to take on the Villanova Wildcats in the Pavilion Pool at 4 pm. The race is set to be live streamed here.
Princeton (7-2) closed the first half of the season with five straight Ivy wins, including victories over Brown and Dartmouth at the Big Al Open, and a 195-105 victory over Columbia. While there were a number of strong contributions during the early-season success, junior Isabel Reis had one of the strongest starts in the entire Ivy League. Reis posted four NCAA B-cut times during Big Al weekend, and her 1:57.94 victory in the 200 fly that weekend still stands as the Ivy's fastest time this season.
Classmate Joanna Curry, one of three tri-captains this season, has a pair of B-cut times as well, including the second-fastest Ivy time in the 400 IM (4:17.38).
While first-year head coach Bret Lundgaard has gotten strong efforts from his veterans, he has also been excited by the early showings of his freshman class. Both Stephanie Nelson (100/200 back) and Jenny Ma (100/200 breast) have a pair of B-cuts this season, and both currently rank in the Ivy League Top 5 in one or both of those events. Classmate Courtney Tseng has been one of the team's top distance and 400 IM performers so far, while both Sine Scribbick and Sophia Peifer have been early contributors in diving.
Princeton and Villanova are familiar with each other from the Big Al Open, when the Tigers topped the Wildcats by nearly 200 points in a tightly contested weekend competition. Darby Goodwin won three events for Villanova during the weekend, including a thrilling 200 IM comeback victory over Reis.
