Princeton Falls at No. 17 Colgate
January 06, 2018 | Men's Ice Hockey
Box Score
Despite outshooting Colgate for the second time this season, it was netminder Colton Point who was the difference maker stopping all 35 shots he faces as the No. 17 ranked Raiders took a 4-0 game at Class of 1965 Arena.
A late first period goal by Nick Austin put Colgate (9-7-4, 5-2-1 ECAC) on the board as he scored on his own rebond, pulling goalie Ryan Ferland out to the left side and was able to get the loose puck amid the scramble. Princeton (6-9-3, 3-7-1 ECAC) picked up the offensive pressure in the second period, but a quick transition goal by the Raiders gave them a 2-0 lead. John Snodgrass came up the middle and Ferland made the initial stop but Bobby McMann came in as the trailer and found an opening on the left side to pop in the juicy rebound.
Â
Tyler Jeanson increased the lead with a goal at 16:14 of the third after a mad scramble in front of the net, Jeanson threw his arms up in celebration. After a video review, the officials deemed it a good goal.
Â
Princeton pulled Ferland for the extra attacker at 17:05 and put five shots on goal but couldn't get one past Point, who won a gold medal with Canada at the World Juniors just last night. Point finished the game with 37 saves.
Â
Nick Quillan added an empty-net goal with three seconds remaining.
Â
Ferland made 26 saves for the Tigers as shots fell 37-30 in favor of the Orange & Black.
Princeton's next stop is at Harvard and Dartmouth next weekend, Jan. 12 & 13.
