Princeton Opens 2018 With Sweep Of Virginia
January 07, 2018 | Men's Squash
The seventh-ranked Princeton men's squash team carried the momentum it gained from a strong early part of the season into its first match of 2018 and swept Virginia 9-0 Sunday morning at the Jadwin Squash Courts.
Princeton didn't drop an individual game throughout the match, though there were some tight three-game matches during the match. Freshman Youssef Ibrahim remained undefeated at the No. 1 spot, but he had to work for all three games in a 11-7, 14-12, 11-8 victory over Toby Hansford. Classmate Alex Engstrom had a similar battle on the other side of the ladder, but he topped Christopher Dalglish 14-12, 11-3, 11-9 at the No. 9 spot.
Both senior co-captains also earned wins, including a tough 11-8, 11-7, 12-10 victory for Abhimanyu Shah at the No. 7 spot.
Princeton will now turn its attention to the Ivy League title chase, which opens next weekend with home matches against both Brown (Saturday, 2:30) and Yale (Sunday, 2:30). Both matches will be streamed live on the Ivy League Network.
