Colvin Clutch Once Again as Princeton Beats Penn 2-1 in OT
November 03, 2018 | Men's Soccer
Senior Jeremy Colvin scored his fifth game-winning goal of the season in 2-1 overtime win over Penn on Senior Day at Sherrerd Field. All five of Colvin's goals this season have been game winners as the Tigers remain unbeaten in the Ivy at 5-0-1.
The win extends Princeton's unbeaten streak to eight as the Tigers, who are receiving votes in the national poll, improve to 10-4-2 on the season.
The Ivy League title and the league's automatic bid will come down to the final weekend of action. In first place with 16 points Princeton will take on Yale at 4 p.m., next Saturday in New Haven. A win would clinch the title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Trailing by one point with 15, Columbia will host Cornell at 1 p.m.
Senior Will Lentz came off the bench to score his first goal of the season in the 37th minute as he knocked in a long ball played by Cole Morokhovich on the left flank.
The Tigers continued to pressure and outshot Penn 17-4 in the game, but the Quakers were able to force extra time with a goal off a corner kick in the 84th. Alex Touche headed in a Brandon Bartel corner on the team's second shot on goal of the game.
Princeton thought it had the overtime winner earlier in extra time but the goal - by Colvin - was waved off due to an offsides.
Relentless the Tigers kept it up and senior Benjamin Martin set up Colvin for the golden goal in the 98th minute.
