McSherry and O'Toole Named All-Region
December 05, 2018 | Men's Soccer
One week after the Princeton men's soccer staff was named the NCAA Northeast Regional Coaching Staff of the Year, two Tigers have earned all-region honors.
Senior Sean McSherry captured first-team all-region honors, while sophomore Kevin O'Toole was named to the second team.
McSherry led the Tigers in scoring with 12 points scoring four goals and four assists. He collected half of his points during Ivy League play with a goal at Columbia, an assist against Yale and a goal and an assist versus Cornell. McSherry had his first three-point game of the season in a 2-0 win at Delaware, scored in a win over Temple and had an assist at Bradley and Rider. McSherry was a first-team All-Ivy League selection.
The Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year Kevin O'Toole earned second-team honors with 11 points. All 11 of his points came against Ivy League opponents. His personal best was a five-point game against Harvard, scoring two goals and assisting on a third in a 3-0 shutout. He had a goal and an assist in a win over Brown and in a draw with Dartmouth. O'Toole was a first-team All-Ivy League selection.
Princeton won the Ivy League this season and made its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance. It was a tremendous turn around for the team that started the year 1-3. Losing just twice over the next 14 games, the Tigers had a stretch of eight games in which they were unbeaten. Princeton can also say their season didn't end in a loss as they tied Michigan in the NCAA first round with the Wolverines advancing in penalty kicks in the 14th round.
