Princeton Win Streak Halted at Yale
February 10, 2018 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton couldn't overcome an early three-goal deficit as the Tigers dropped a 7-2 game at Yale on Saturday night. The loss halted Princeton's win streak at five.
Â
Yale stormed out of the locker room and took a 3-0 lead just 5:50 into the game. Princeton settled in for the second and pulled within one, 3-2.
Senior Eric Robinson put his team on the board when he snuck the puck between Kaczperski and the right pipe on a pass from sophomore Jackson Cressey who took a drop pass from freshman Reid Yochim.
Yochim factored into the next goal as well, outletting a pass down the left boards to ECAC Player of the Week Ryan Kuffner. Kuffner found junior Alex Riche splitting his defenders as he entered the zone and got one gloveside on Kaczperski.
Â
A four-goal third period pushed things out of reach, as Evan Smith and Joe Snively both collected hat tricks.
Â
The Tigers came up empty on the power-play on three chances after having entered the game with the second-best rate in the nation at 27 percent.
Â
It was a tough go for the Princeton netminders. Freshman Ryan Ferland started the game and made three saves on six shots before being replaced by senior Ben Halford. Halford made 15 saves on 20 shots before Ferland went back into the game for the final 9:50 and made two saves on three shots. The final tally was an empty-net short-handed goal as Princeton tried to take advantage of a power-play and to climb back into the game.
Â
Yale's Corbin Kaczperski made 34 saves, as Princeton outshot Yale 36-30.
Â
Princeton (11-11-3, 8-9-1) remains in sixth place in the ECAC race with 17 points, along with Dartmouth and now Yale with four games remaining in the regular season.
Â
The Tigers host Rensselaer and Union next weekend, Feb. 16 & 17 at Hobey Baker Rink. Princeton will honor the 1998 and 2008 ECAC Championship teams on #ChampionsWeekend. Stanley Cups champions George Parros '03 and Kevin Westgarth '07 will also return to Old Nassau.
