Tigers Sweep Buffalo, Army West Point Sunday
February 11, 2018 | Men's Tennis
Sunday's doubleheader at Army West Point saw the Princeton men's tennis team take two matches, defeating Buffalo 4-3 and the host Black Knights 5-2.
"We had some good competition today and it was rewarding to battle through a few close ones. We certainly have some things to iron out technically and tactically," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "Buffalo played inspired and very well as we knew they would. Our doubles energy and overall focus was good throughout, particularly considering it was long day on the road. We'll get back to work this week and prepare for the ECAC at Yale."
Against Buffalo, Princeton took the doubles point while giving up only four games across wins at second and third doubles. Luke Gamble then won at third singles after Buffalo won the first match off at second, and after another Buffalo win at first, Davey Roberts won at fourth to retake the lead at 3-2. Diego Vives, who teamed with Kial Kaiser to clinch the doubles point, then won at sixth singles to deliver the clinching fourth point.
Against Army West Point, Princeton swept the doubles point and saw Kabir Sarita, Damian Rodriguez and Ben Tso win three of the first four matches off the court to get Princeton to clinch before Gamble added the fifth point.
The ECAC Championship will run Friday through Sunday at Yale. The bracket will be released later this week.
