Dartmouth Outlasts Princeton in ECAC Semifinals
February 17, 2018 | Men's Tennis
Princeton will face third-seeded Cornell for third place at 4 p.m. Sunday (new time). The match will be streamed here.
"I was pleased with our effort today against a very strong Dartmouth squad," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "We did a good job of clawing through a remarkably close doubles point and followed that up by winning three first sets in singles. We simply didn't do enough in terms of execution to put the match away. Without getting early points on the board in singles, Dartmouth was able to hang around and turn the momentum. Credit to them; they were tough in each position. Nonetheless, we fought hard and just came up short. We'll look to bounce back tomorrow in the final match of the weekend."
Princeton got victories from Payton Holden and Ryan Seggerman at second doubles and Kial Kaiser and Diego Vives at third to take the day's first point, and though Damian Rodriguez at third, Luke Gamble at fourth and Davey Roberts at sixth won their first sets in singles play, Dartmouth, which improved to 11-0 on the season with the win, was able to claim straight-set matches on courts one and two to pull ahead and rally back to win on courts three and four for the clinch.
