Knodt Wins Gold at Junior Olympics

Princeton freshman Julian Knodt won gold at the Junior Olympics competition that wrapped Monday in Memphis, Tenn.

Knodt emerged on top of a field of 282 men's foil fencers after going 6-0 in his pool bouts to earn the fifth seed and winning seven elimination matches to claim the title.

Princeton had two finishers in the top 10 in that event with sophomore Samuel Barmann taking ninth. Barmann also won all six of his pool bouts and earned the 11th seed, advancing to the round of 16.

In the other weapons, sophomore Maia Chamberlain took 11th in a field of 189 women's épée fencers, while in men's épée, sophomore Wesley Yuan took 15th, rookie Dylan Kim placed 31st, and fellow freshman Nicolas Wilson placed 82nd in a field of 325.
