Murphy Named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week

Freshman defender Mary Murphy was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday, Feb. 19.
No. 9 Princeton opened with a 17-4 win at previously unbeaten Temple on Saturday. Murphy helped to hold the Temple offense to just 16 shots and four goals. The Owls entered the game averaging 15 goals per game and 24.5 shots per game. She had a team high four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Freshman Kyla Sears was named to the honor roll with a six-point game in her collegiate debut. She scored four goals, two assists, had four draws and one ground ball at Temple.
After the first week of the regular season, Princeton remains No. 9 in the first IWLCA coaches poll with 315 points. The Tigers move up from No. 13 to No. 12 in the Cascade Media Poll presented by Inside Lacrosse with 179 points.
No. 9 Princeton hosts No. 16 Virginia in the home opener on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m., on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.
