#12 Pepperdine Fights Off Princeton In Tight 3rd Set To Clinch Win; Tigers Open EIVA Play Next Week
February 03, 2018 | Men's Volleyball
Sophomore Parker Dixon led Princeton with seven kills, while classmates George Huhmann and Greg Luck added six apiece for the Princeton men's volleyball team, which pushed the 12th-ranked Pepperdine Waves in a tight third set before ultimately falling 25-20, 25-15, 27-25 to wrap up its California road trip.
Huhmann, the reigning EIVA Newcomer of the Year, hit .500 for the Tigers and led the team with four blocks, while Mike Fuerst had three kills on only four swings. Freshman Jess Hunt had four kills without an error and added two blocks, while classmate Joe Kelly paced the offense with 25 assists.
Besides a tough second set, the Princeton offense looked strong against yet another Top-15 opponent. The Tigers hit .304 in the opening set, and they closed the match by hitting .391. Unfortunately, Princeton didn't have enough answers for David Wieczorek (15 kills) and the rest of the Pepperdine offense, which hit .365 for the match and led wire-to-wire through the first two sets.
Princeton fell to 1-7 in the loss, but all eight matches it has played this season were against teams that were ranked in the Top 15 at some point early this season. That level of quality opponent will have Princeton tested and ready for the start of EIVA play, which begins next weekend with two matches at Charleston.
