Tigers Sweep Home Weekend, Top Charlotte, Western Michigan
March 04, 2018 | Men's Tennis
"It was a productive home weekend of tennis for us," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "We played a great match today against Western Michigan. It wasn't an easy assignment following a morning match with a solid Charlotte squad. Western Michigan is a very experienced and talented team that plays especially well indoors. It really helped us to play a high-energy, well-executed doubles point to gain early momentum. It was still a dogfight and credit to our guys for being mentally tough and withstanding a strong surge by Western. I thought Kial played particularly well in beating a ranked player at the number one spot. We'll get some much-needed rest the next few days and then prepare for two more home matches next Sunday."
Against Charlotte, Princeton won the first two doubles matches off court to claim the doubles point and then added five straight-set singles wins to reach six points. On court one, Kial Kaiser battled 77th-ranked Luca Keist to a third set before Charlotte was able to claim its point. Luke Gamble, Diego Vives and Jimmy Wasserman were all winners in both doubles and singles.
Against WMU, Princeton again won the doubles point and took three of the first four singles matches off court to claim the victory. The clincher saw Kaiser battle his second ITA-ranked opponent of the day, this time getting the win against 88th-ranked Maik Steiner in straight sets. Wasserman was the lone Tiger to win in both doubles and singles in the day's second match.
The Tigers will compete again next Sunday with matches against Temple at 10 a.m. and Monmouth at 3 p.m. in Jadwin.
