Brown Tops Tigers in Ivy Home Finale
April 15, 2018 | Men's Tennis
The last home Ivy League match of the spring for the Princeton men's tennis team went to Brown 4-2 Sunday in Jadwin Gym.
"Credit to Brown; they deserved to win today," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "They played hungry and inspired and we didn't match it. I'm disappointed in our mental toughness and resiliency today. We simply didn't come ready for a battle and we need to learn from that. Everyone is balanced and strong in our league and it's essential to show up with complete focus each match. It's unfortunate we didn't do that, especially on our home court. We'll expect a much better effort next week on the road at Harvard and Dartmouth."
The Tigers opened by seeing Brown win the last two doubles matches on court to take the match's first point, and though Damian Rodriguez and Payton Holden won two of the first three singles matches off court in straight sets to tie it at 2-2, Brown answered with wins on courts three and two to get to four points.
Princeton, which fell to 2-3 in the Ivy with the loss, will end its league season next Saturday and Sunday at Harvard and Dartmouth.
