NCAA Champs Enjoy Strong North American Cup Performances

Just a month ago, sophomore épée Kasia Nixon and sophomore saber Maia Chamberlain won NCAA titles. At the U.S. Fencing North American Cup event that wrapped up Monday in Richmond, Va., they turned in more strong finishes that will gain points toward U.S. representation in international competitions.
Nixon took second of 85 competitors in the Division I competition with Katharine Holmes '17 tying for third and rookie Tatijana Stewart placing 44th. Nixon made it to the final before coming up a touch short to Notre Dame junior Amanda Sirico, 11-10. Sirico has finished third at each of the last two NCAA Championships.
Chamberlain took third in her Division I competition with Eliza Stone '13 placing 18th and Gracie Stone '16 taking 38th in the field of 69. Chamberlain made the semifinals before she also came up a touch short to 2012 Temple alum Kamali Thompson, 15-14.
In Division I men's foil, Samuel Barmann took sixth while rookie Julian Knodt took 27th of 79, and in the 114-fencer Division I men's épée event, Jonathan Yergler '13 took 14th, Alex House '17 placed 16th and junior Wesley Johnson finished 37th.
