Amaechi Finishes 14th at Junior World Championship

Rising sophomore Obiageri Amaechi completed her competition for the season at the IAAF World U20 Championships on Tuesday, July 10.
Also known as the World Juniors, the event held in Tampere, Finland, featured 29 competitors in the women's discus from across the globe with Amaechi being one of just to Americans.
After opening with a 48.94 (160-6.75), Amaechi was unable to get a mark on her second and third attempts, which placed her fourth in Group A. Finishing 14th overall she just missed making the top 12 that advanced to the finals.
The 2018 USA Junior champion, Amaechi's freshmen year was nothing short of spectacular. In her first meet as a Tiger she set the Princeton record in the discuss and then continued to surpass that mark in every meet she competed in during the regular season. After finishing as the runner-up at Ivy Heps, Amaechi won the ECAC Championship and was third at the NCAA East Regional. In her first NCAA Championships, she placed seventh to earn first-team All-America honors. Amaechi owns not only the Princeton record in the event, but also the Ivy League record with a 56.98 (186-11).
Amaechi will spend the rest of summer doing research on health care quality inconsistencies in her neighborhood in California, before returning to Princeton for her sophomore year.
