News & Notes: Tigers Get New Ranking, Prep for Ranked Foe; Asom Adds an Honor
August 28, 2018 | Women's Soccer
Mimi Asom's inclusion on Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week and the Tigers' standing in this week's polls and stat rankings are among the news and notes as the Princeton women's soccer team prepares to open its home slate Friday against Saint Joseph's.
• The new United Soccer Coaches poll came out Tuesday afternoon, putting the Tigers 20th. Princeton won both its games over the weekend but fell six spots nonetheless, as the entire top 25 had just six losses and seven ties combined entering the week. Princeton is ranked 12th by Top Drawer Soccer.
• The new poll ensures it'll be a top-20 battle Sunday at Roberts Stadium as 13th-ranked North Carolina State visits for a 7 p.m. start. Before that, the Tigers will battle with a Saint Joseph's team that, while not receiving votes nationally, is ranked seventh in the East region, four spots behind Princeton.Â
• Mimi Asom was among the 11 players included on TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week after scoring in each of Princeton's wins at New Hampshire and Boston University last weekend. She was also named the Ivy League women's soccer Player of the Week and the Suburban Transit/GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week.
• Entering Tuesday, Princeton was one of 15 teams in Division I that hadn't allowed a goal. With the Ivy just starting last weekend, the league had three teams on the list, including Penn and Dartmouth. Princeton was also one of 36 teams in the country that stood perfect with a 1.000 winning percentage.
• Individually, junior Natalie Grossi was one of 21 goalkeepers who played at least 90 minutes and hadn't yet allowed a goal. Senior Mimi Asom was one of 45 players with at least two game-winning goals. But, only Asom and Florida Gulf Coast's Marjorie Boilesen had game-winning goals in all of her team's games.
