Givens Named to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List
August 09, 2018 | Women's Soccer
A place in Princeton women's soccer history already secured with her career only half complete, Princeton rising junior Abby Givens has another accolade to add.
Givens was one of 45 players nationally to be included on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List when the organization announced the list Thursday for college soccer's top award. Two other players on the list are on teams on Princeton's schedule this weekend, in N.C. State's Tziarra King and Georgetown's Caitlin Farrell.
Givens, a North Carolina native, scored one of the biggest goals in program history last fall when she had the overtime winner against North Carolina in the NCAA round of 16, advancing the Tigers to the NCAA quarterfinals and delivering a win over the 21-time NCAA champion and No. 2-ranked Tar Heels.
But Givens has far more to her credit in her two seasons at Princeton than that one moment, historic as it was. Givens is a two-time All-Ivy Leaguer, selected to the first team last year after being an honorable mention as a freshman. She has scored 15 goals as a Tiger with 12 of those coming last year, and her 30 points last season were tied for the seventh-most in a season in program history. Her 12 goals were tied for the ninth-most in a season in Tiger history.
Givens is the first Tiger since Tyler Lussi '17 in 2016 to be named to a MAC Hermann Watch List, and though Vanessa Gregoire '18 was not on the preseason watch list a year ago, Gregoire's Ivy League Co-Offensive Player of the Year season advanced her to the semifinal stage of the Hermann Trophy process.
Givens and the Tigers will open their season Aug. 24 at New Hampshire. The full Hermann Watch List can be found here.
