BOSTON, Mass. (9/14/18) - The HYP trophy is returning to Princeton! The Tigers won the annual Harvard-Yale-Princeton race for the second straight year, giving the trophy a round-trip trip back to Princeton. The Tigers earned 32 points to just nudge Yale, a team with 33 points. Harvard was third with 59 points.
Freshman Gillian Wagner was the runner-up in the race in her first time out on a course in a Princeton singlet. She posted a time of 17:33.9. Sophomore Melia Chittenden and seniors Brighie Leach and Madison Offstein all finished in the top 10 as Chittenden claimed fifth place at 17:56.6 and Leach just one second back in sixth place at 17:57.6. Offstein was eighth at 17:59. Senior Allie Klimkiewicz's time of 18:07.7 just crossing the line in front of Yale's fifth runner at 18:09.9 was made the difference in giving the Tigers the win.
"We had a positive and productive day competing as a team against Ivy League rivals Yale and Harvard," head coach Brad Hunt said. "The meet was decided in the last 200 meters, as our 2-3-4-5 all passed a Yale athlete to swing the final result in our favor. We have a great blend of seasoned veterans and talented underclassmen all capable of pushing the Princeton pack forward in the weeks ahead. We will go as the pack progresses with an eye on the Ivy League Championships at the end of October."
Princeton will make an out of region trip to Chicago in two weeks, when it attends the Lakefront Invitational hosted by the Loyola-Chicago (Ill.).
