Colvin Named a Finalst for Senior CLASS Award
September 20, 2018 | Men's Soccer
Jeremy Colvin of the Princeton men's soccer team has been announced as one of 30 finalists for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate soccer. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
A second-team All-Ivy League forward, Colvin led the Tigers in scoring last year. This week's Ivy League Player of the Week, Colvin has scored the last three game-winning goals for the Tigers as they went 3-0 this past week.
In the classroom, Colvin is in the Woodrow Wilson School Public & International Affairs and is on track to earn a dual certificate in both information technology policy and statistics and machine learning. Most notably he presented a paper entitled "Telecommunication Infrastructure as an Instrument Against Political Instability" at the Pentagon in 2017. This past summer he was the Operations Research Intern with the Department of Defense, where he conducted statistical cost analysis on Army programs relating to cyber capabilities and aviation software. Additionally, he is the treasurer of the University Cottage Club at Princeton University, a licensed USSF referee, and a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo with two Junior Olympic gold medals.Â
Outside the classroom, Colvin has been involved in numerous community service efforts. He is the founder of Free Kick Clinic based out of Houston. Free Kick is a nonprofit designed to help under-insured soccer players get medical attention they cannot afford. He personally conducts direct outreach to physicians to donate their treatment and medical equipment. Colvin also is an officer in the Princeton chapter of Best Buddies: a nonprofit aimed at enhancing the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Along with the team, he is involved in Friends of Jaclyn—which improves the quality of life for a child with cancer—through the team's "adoption" of Derek in 2013.

The field will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the season and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in December.
