Tigers Ready To Host 2018 Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 13 Princeton Tigers are set to the host the annual Princeton Invitational this weekend (Sept. 7-9).
There will be nine contests on Friday beginning at 11 a.m., 11 more on Saturday starting at 7:30 a.m., and eight on Sunday that get underway at 7:30 a.m. There will be no live stats for any game and only Princeton events will be streamed on ESPN+. Air Force, Brown, Cal. Baptist, Fordham, George Washington, Harvard, Iona, Johns Hopkins, Navy, Princeton Santa Clara, St. Francis, Stanford, UCLA and Wagner are all the squads participating in the invitational.
Princeton gets started on Friday (11 a.m.) against No. 4 Stanford and Santa Clara (2:45 p.m.). The Tigers have never defeated Stanford (0-7) and is 9-2 all-time against Santa Clara.
On Saturday, the Tigers take on Cal. Baptist (10 a.m.) before wrapping up the weekend on Sunday vs. Air Force (7:30 a.m.) and No. 1 UCLA (12:30 p.m.). The program has earned wins against Cal Baptist (2-2) and Air Force (4-2), but has never won against UCLA (0-12).
The Tigers are currently 3-0 on the young season after posting victories over Johns Hopkins (12-5), Wagner (11-5) and Navy (15-9) at the Navy Open last weekend. Matt Payne posted three straight multi-goal games and leads the unit with seven goals. Ryan Wilson had four assists against Navy, which is the best on the team right in front of Mitchell Cooper's three helpers. Princeton used two goalies in the three games in Ryan Melosini (21 saves) and Billy Motherway (24). Motherway earned Northeast Water Polo Conference Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.
Princeton didn't move in the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Poll, remaining at No. 13. USC and UCLA are tied for the top spot with 98 points. Cal., Stanford and Pacific round out the top five. Harvard, the top Northeast Water Polo Conference team, improved to No. 9.
