George Mason has been the site of several memorable moments for the Princeton volleyball team, though none ranked higher than last spring, when the Tigers upset the top-seeded Patriots to reach the 2018 EIVA championship match.
Princeton will look for a similar memory on its next trip to Fairfax, Va., which happens to come this weekend.
George Mason will serve as the host of the 2019 Uvaldo Acosta Invitational, which opens Friday at 5 pm when Princeton takes on the #3 Anteaters of UC-Irvine. This will be the third Top-6 opponent that Princeton will face over the first five matches of the season; the Tigers have already faced both #2 UCLA and #6 Pepperdine.
On Saturday, Princeton will close its weekend with a 5 pm match against Erskine, one of the teams from the Conference Carolinas that will try to make a run at the NCAA Championships. Both matches will be streamed live (see links above), and you can follow both via live stats.
Princeton (0-4) has faced a daunting opening schedule, with all four opponents ranked in the latest AVCA Top 15. Despite the imposing competition, junior outside hitter Parker Dixon impressed enough to earn EIVA Offensive Player of the Week honors. Dixon ended the week with 52 kills, 14 digs, eight blocks and five service aces to open his third season as a starter. He hit .286 for the week, though his final two matches saw Dixon hit .485 (with 19 kills) against Ball State and .321 against #14 Purdue Fort Wayne.
