Princeton Challenges #3 UC-Irvine But Falls 3-0
January 11, 2019 | Men's Volleyball
Princeton made a good push at the third-ranked UC-Irvine Anteaters Friday evening in the opening match of the 2019 Uvaldo Acosta Invitational, but the Tigers weren't able to pull the major upset. UC-Irvine posted a 3-0 to improve to 4-0, while Princeton will look for its first win of the season Saturday at 5 pm when it takes on Erskine.
Preseason All-American George Huhmann had a terrific showing against the national contender, recording 10 kills, five digs, three blocks and a service ace, while classmate Greg Luck had nine kills and a pair of digs. Reigning EIVA Offensive Player of the Week Parker Dixon added six digs, while freshman Brady Wembush added a trio of kills.
Sophomore setter Joe Kelly paced the offense with 21 assists and added five digs for the Tigers, who have now played three of their five matches against teams ranked in the current AVCA Top 5. All five opponents so far this season are ranked in the current Top 15, a trend that will end with the Erskine match Saturday.
