The Princeton women's swimming and diving team knows it has its biggest goals in front of them, and the Tigers hope to have plenty to celebrate over the next two months.
That being said, they're making sure to celebrate an important group of seniors prior to Saturday's tri-meet with both Rutgers and Villanova, the second of two local meets for Princeton in their final tuneups for the critical February stretch. The Tigers will make the short trip to Piscataway on Friday for a 4 pm dual against Rutgers.
Following that meet, Saturday will be Senior Day at DeNunzio Pool, and Princeton will honor the class of Joanna Curry, Kate Didion, Elaina Gu, Carolyn MacFarlane, Monica McGrath, Izzy Reis and Karen Zhang during a ceremony before the final non-Ivy meet of the season. The Class of 2019 has helped Princeton to 26 victories during their careers, and they played an invaluable role to help the program make the transition from Susan Teeter to Bret Lundgaard midway through their careers.
This may be their final regular season meet in DeNunzio Pool, but several members of this class will compete in their beloved home venue one more time. The Ivy League Championships return to DeNunzio Pool Feb. 20-23, and both Curry and Reis will look to return to the top of the Ivy podium at both the individual or relay levels.
Reis enters this weekend with Top 10 Ivy League times in the 50 free, 100 fly and 200 IM, while Curry has the fourth-fastest 200 IM and the second-fastest 400 IM time in the league.
Of course, the rest of the roster has made their mark in the Ivy League as well. Reigning 400 IM champion Regan Barney currently has the Ivy's fastest time in the event, while classmate Stephanie Nelson has the second-fastest time in the 200 back. Juniors Elaine Zhou and Gianna Garcia both have top-five times in the 100 fly.
Following Saturday's meet, Princeton will break for finals and will return Feb. 1-2 for the HYP meet at Harvard.
